Welcome to RBCS, Inc.

Dear Reader
,
The end of summer is coming soon,
and with the arrival of fall typically comes new projects and new
challenges. We have some ideas for how you can meet those
challenges.
One
way of meeting new testing challenges is advancing your skills. What
better way to do that than to move on to the ISTQB Advanced certification?
We have some new options to help you achieve one or more of the ISTQB Advanced
Test Manager, ISTQB Advanced Test Analyst, and ISTQB Advanced Technical Test
Analyst certifications, which we'll discuss below. You can have confidence
in choosing RBCS resources for Advanced preparation, as our pass rates are well
above the world-wide average of about 50% for Advanced exam takers. In one
recent training, 100% of attendees passed the Advanced Test Manager
exam.
Want
to achieve all three Advanced certifications? Doing so brings you into an
elite company. While over 300,000 ISTQB certifications have been issued,
less than 1% of ISTQB certificate-holders have achieved CTAL-FULL. We are
proud to have helped some of them reach that point, and you can learn more about
that below.
Something
else we're proud to be associated with is helping United States veterans enter
the testing profession. One way we do this is by collaborating with Sharp
Decisions, as discussed in a previous newsletter. Now we are pleased to
support the ASTQB in its program to implement full reimbursement for veterans
taking the ISTQB exams. More details in this newsletter.
Of course, we have a featured article in this
newsletter. This article is an excerpt of my upcoming book, Expert
Test Manager, co-written with Debbie Friedenberg. In this article, I
discuss how to recognize successful testing. Don't just guess
whether your test team is delivering value to your organization: know.
Finally,
our free webinar program continues this fall and for the foreseeable
future. We have an interesting line-up for the rest of this year, and will
kick-off the 2014 series with a presentation that recently stirred a great deal
of discussion in the Twitter world. Want to hear the talk that launched
1000 tweets? Keep tuning in to the RBCS free monthly webinar
program!
Regards,
Rex

Introducing ISTQB e-Advanced
Level Exam Preparation Guides
USD $200
With
release of the 2012 syllabus, the learning objectives for the ISTQB Certified
Tester Advanced Level training were modified to improve their meaning and
objectives were added and deleted. The RBCS ISTQB e-Advanced Exam Preparation
Guides, specifically focus on the updates to the Advanced syllabi and includes
two months of 24/7 access to sample exam questions broken down by the sections
within each chapter, a mock exam, the accompanying audio and the audio script.
The sample exam questions assess knowledge and identify areas where additional
study is needed. The mock exam assesses certification exam readiness. The exam
is built according to the relevant ISTQB exam guidelines.
Users have a
choice in which format to take the mock exam. One option provides the mock exam
with immediate feedback as each question is answered. Answer explanations are
provided with the indication of the correct or incorrect answer. The other
option provides the scenario closer aligned with the format of the certification
exam where the responses to the questions are submitted at once upon completion
of the exam. Candidates can review the quiz after the completion. The correct
answers are shown along with the user's answers but the answer explanations are
not provided with the second option.
RBCS encourages our certification
candidates to go through e-Advanced Level Exam Preparation Guide as well as read
the 2012 Advanced level syllabi specific for their course. In addition the
option to purchase a supplemental text book is available.

Defining
Test Mission, Policy, and Metrics of Success
By Rex Black, President, RBCS
[This article is an excerpt from an upcoming book,
The Expert Test Manager, to be published by Rocky Nook this fall and written by
Rex Black and Debbie Friedenberg.]
The International Software Testing Qualifications
Board (ISTQB) program defines testing expansively. Static testing (via reviews
and static analysis) is included as well as all levels of dynamic testing, from
unit testing through to the various forms of acceptance testing. The test
process is defined to include all necessary activities for these types of
testing; planning; analysis, design, and implementation; execution, monitoring,
and results reporting; and closure.
What is the point of all this work? We could do all
of these activities in a fashion that is technically correct but still fail to
deliver any value to the business. That might seem surprising, but we have
performed a number of assessments for clients where their internal testing
processes functioned reasonably well but their work and deliverables were not
valued by any of the key stakeholders. The managers of these test groups
typically had failed to identify the stakeholders or, worse yet, in spite of
being aware of the stakeholders, failed to work collaboratively with them to
determine how to connect the testing process to something valued by each of
them.
Who are the people who
have a stake in the testing and quality of a system? We can broadly classify
them as being either technical stakeholders or business stakeholders. A
technical stakeholder is someone who understands and participates in the design
and implementation of the system. A business stakeholder is someone who is not
so concerned with the design and implementation details but does have specific
needs that the system must
fulfill. To read this article in its entirety and to see all

Tip
Replace disposable products with reusable
ones wherever possible. You'll cut costs, reduce waste, and show customers you
run an eco-savvy business. For example, choose reusable ink cartridges through a
cartridge refilling program. Many companies even offer discounts on future ink
cartridge purchases, so you'll be saving money in more ways than
one.
